National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are showcasing the National Parks of Eastern Kangaroo Island this December through it's 'Park of Month' program and you're invited to celebrate with range of guided walks and drives, exclusive tours and more.

Culture & History

Free Entry to Cape Willoughby Conservation Park

Wander the grounds of South Australia’s oldest functioning lighthouse. Take in the spectacular views of the Eastern most point of Kangaroo Island. Walk around the 170 year old lighthouse that once played a vital role in the shipping trade of the young colony of South Australia.

When: Open daily 10 am to 4 pm (closed Christmas Day)
Where: Cape Willoughby Conservation Park
Cost: Free – bookings not required. Does not include entry to Lighthouse Climb Tours.

 

Cape Willoughby Lighthouse – After Hours Climb

Join the guides for a special after-hours experience and climb to the top of South Australia’s oldest functioning lighthouse to take in the spectacular views of Backstairs Passage, Southern Ocean and the Kangaroo Island Coastline.

When: Friday 3, 10 and 17 December, 4 pm and 5 pm
Where: Cape Willoughby Conservation Park
Cost: $17 per person. Tickets must be booked directly with Cape Willoughby Visitor Centre on 0419 945 565

Ranger-Guided D’estrees Bay Beach Ramble

Join a ranger for a morning at Wreckers Beach at D’estrees Bay in Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park where you'll learn about the local marine life, coastal birds and coastal habitat with an interpretive tour of the beach and local area. Kids will be kept entertained with a beachcombing activity on the beach discovering treasures of the Southern Kangaroo Island Marine Park.

When: Saturday 4 and 11 December, 10 am to 12 pm
Where: Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park

Ranger-guided D’estrees Bay self-drive tour

Join a local ranger for an informative self-drive tour of the D’estrees Bay area within Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park. As you journey through the park, there will be stops along the way were you will see and learn about the landscape, conservation values and the cultural and natural history of the area.

When: Saturday 4 and 11 December, 1:30 pm to 3 pm
Where: Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park
Cost: Free – bookings required

Seal Bay Exclusive Experience

Seal Bay has been home to an Australian sea lion population for thousands of years. For an exclusive visit to one of the most exceptional nature-based experiences in the world. Your group (max 8 people) will be the only group on the beach as your guide takes you into the heart of the colony where they'll teach you about these endangered animals. 

When: Wednesday 8, 15 and 22 December, 5 pm to 6:15 pm
Cost: Adults $38, Concession $30.50 Child $21.50, Family $93.
Bookings for this tour is essential.

Ranger-guided River to the Sea Ramble

Join the park rangers for a guided walk along the Chapman River to the Sea. Learn about the important river and estuary ecosystem and the array of wildlife that depends on it like birds, fish and mammals. As the river meets the sea, make your way onto beautiful Antechamber Bay Beach to explore one of Kangaroo Island’s best beaches. There will be kid’s activities along the way, including a beach game and time to discover the sounds and sights of the river.

When: Saturday 5 and 12 December, 10 am to 12 pm
Where: Lashmar Conservation Park
Cost: Free – bookings required
