Kangaroo Island Destination Management Plan

About the Plan

The Kangaroo Island Destination Management Plan (DMP) provides a strategic framework to guide the sustainable growth of tourism across our region. It identifies key priorities, opportunities, and actions required to enhance Kangaroo Island’s appeal as a destination, while ensuring long-term benefits for our community, economy, and environment.

Developed through extensive consultation with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and the wider community, the DMP captures our shared vision for a thriving tourism sector that protects the natural and cultural values that make Kangaroo Island so unique.

Draft Plan Now Closed for Consultation

The Draft Destination Management Plan has now been closed for public consultation.

This draft outlines a range of strategic focus areas designed to:

  • Strengthen our tourism offering and visitor experiences

  • Improve infrastructure and access

  • Support the development of local tourism businesses

  • Encourage year-round visitation

  • Protect and enhance the Island’s environmental and cultural assets

The feedback received will now be considered and the final plan developed. We envisage that the Plan will be delivered in mid to late November 2025.

Final Plan

Once community and industry feedback has been considered, the final Destination Management Plan will be published on this page. It will include an implementation roadmap, outlining clear actions and responsibilities to deliver on the plan’s priorities.

Stay Involved

The DMP is a living document that will guide Kangaroo Island’s tourism future. Implementation will require collaboration across all sectors, and there will be opportunities for ongoing involvement.
