Kangaroo Island Shines at South Australian Tourism Awards.
The South Australian Tourism Awards are presented by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council and proudly supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission. Now in its 32nd year, the Awards celebrate and acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year.
The Awards is an online submission and site visit based program and provides the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and showcase South Australia’s finest tourism operators.
In November 2016, five fantastic Kangaroo Island Businesses were recognised in the South Australian Tourism Awards across a range of catergories.
Seal Bay Kangaroo Island was the overall winner of Catergory 5 – Ecotourim.
Seal Bay has been home to an Australian sea lion population for thousands of years, offering one of the State’s most exceptional nature-based experiences. It is the only place in the world where visitors can walk on a beach amongst a breeding colony of endangered Australian sea lions. You will see pups play, bulls fight for supremacy and resting mothers suckle their young. Visitors are treated with incredible views of the rugged coastline, sea lion colony, untouched dune system and pristine sandy beach. Seal Bay provides a truly unique experience, complimented by knowledgeable and informative guides and tour information.
Tourism Kangaroo Island was the overall winner of Catergory 9 – Visitor Information Services
Tourism Kangaroo Island has been delivering quality visitor information services on Kangaroo Island for the last 20 years. The organisation is membership based and represents approximately 95% of all tourism operators in the region. It runs the only accredited visitor information centre, the number one ranked Google consumer website and one of the most successful regional social media platforms in South Australia. Tourism Kangaroo Island is dedicated to its new, existing and potential visitors, ensuring they are provided with information that promotes and enhances the complete visitor experience.
Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari – Silver Medalist Category 12 - Tour and Transport Operators
Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari operates marine tours from Christmas Cove in Penneshaw. Dudley Wines – Silver Medalist Catergory 16 - Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries
Dudley Wines is a hands-on family business. Established in 1997, Dudley is Kangaroo Island's Pioneer Winery. The Cellar Door is situated 12 kilometres from Penneshaw on the cliff tops of Kangaroo Island's stunning north coast - a not to be missed experience for visitors to the island.
Sea Dragon Lodge – Silver Medalist, Category 20 – Self Contained Accomodation
Featuring its own pristine secluded beach and walking trails, Sea Dragon Lodge is a luxury wilderness retreat at Cape Willoughby on the north-eastern shores of Kangaroo Island.
This spectacular 250 acre seafront estate offers stylish lodge-style accommodation and fully self contained eco-villas, set amongst the bush with spectacular ocean views and abundant wildlife.
Tourism Kangaroo Island would like to sincerely congratulate the winners and medalists at the State Tourism Awards, and has its fingers crossed for both itself and Seal Bay who will go on to represent the State at the National Tourism Awards to be held in Darwin in February 2017.
