Kangaroo Island Marathon
'Run with the Roos'

Saturday 27th August 2016

The Kangaroo Island Marathon has been created to showcase one of Australia’s best kept secrets.

The premium tour packages offer visitors an immersive and intimate journey to every corner of the island. Enjoy executive ocean view hotel accommodation, coach and ferry transfers, hosted day trips, meals, race entry, and an exciting range of optional add-on experiences.

The course route is located in the remote south-west corner of Flinders Chase National Park, starting and finishing at the visitors centre. Be inspired by deviating and undulating roads that cut through dense forest, an exposed coastal section with views of the powerful Southern Ocean, a loop that travels by historic landmarks such as Cape de Couedic Lighthouse and Admirals Arch, and a zig-zag boardwalk leading to the iconic Remarkable Rocks.

Kangaroo Island Art Feastival

1st September - 28th October 2016

Art Feast will be launched this year on the very first day of Spring: Thursday September 1st, from 5pm. The launch event will be held at Willowbrook, home of KI Tru Thai, with a special menu and live music. Make sure you put it in your diary now!

In addition to all of the usual Art Feast exhibitions and activities, there will be a series of Shared Table events featuring the best of the island’s produce and beverages, and prepared by the best of our local chefs. These events also will include an art component - for example, poetry reading, drama, music, dance, a display of visual art, or a conversation with an artist.

Youth Art Feast will again feature strongly in our program. We are pleased to be partnering with Environment SA through the Kelly Hill Caves, and the Parndana Progress Association, to bring the stunning Sixteen Legs Cave Art exhibition from Tasmania. We’re aiming to hold our Airport Art Exhibition again this year (renovations allowing), and to link it with the theme of Cave Art, and a competition sponsored by the Sixteen Legs exhibition.

Plans also are being developed for a series of community events at American River, all with a nautical theme, to be held over a weekend in October.

We’re delighted that a number of the island’s leading artists have agreed to open their studios. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for people to watch artists at work, to join in conversations with them, and to view completed works.

All in all, Spring time on Kangaroo Island promises to be an exciting time to be here, with lots of opportunities to enjoy the best of our art, music, food, wine, and more!

~ Bob Teasdale (Chair)
