FUNDING BOOST FOR KANGAROO ISLAND FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

Thursday 26th June 2008

Two Kangaroo Island events are set to benefit from $18,500 in funding from the State Government in 2008-09.

The funding has been allocated through the State Government's Regional Events and Festivals Program and Community Events Development Fund.

Kangaroo Island events to receive funding through the program this financial year include:
- KI Gourmet Gallop & Cup Carnival
- Kangaroo Island Art Feast

Across the State, 42 successful applicants will share in nearly $645,000 in funding.

Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says the funds are allocated to events and festivals that generate tourist activity in South Australia and lift the profile of the State's regions.

"Regional events and festivals play a vital role in drawing visitors to our regions and boosting the State's tourism yield," she says.

"South Australia has a reputation for showcasing brilliant events and festivals, with the calendar of events growing in stature and number each year.

"While many large scale events are based in the city centre or surrounds, there are brilliant festivals and events held across the State almost every weekend of the year.

"Funds are provided to assist event organisers in promotion and marketing to allow them to capitalise on the benefits of their event.

"Tourism brings vital new money into local communities and is one of the most important industries for generating employment and investment in our State."

Events supported through the Regional Events and Festivals Program are also offered in-kind support from the South Australian Tourism Commission, including promotion in SATC publications.
