Cape Borda to Hanson Bay

Friday 24th to Sunday 26th April

Distance: Approximately 60km

From Tom & Jakes Diary

They don't call it the 'wild wild' for nothing. The western end of Kangaroo Island is home of the punishing, unrelenting roaring 40s which we learnt all about on our lighthouse tour at Cape Borda. Unfortunately, due to the bushfires in December 2007, most of the access to the Island's West Coast is closed. So we 'detoured' inland to Cape de Couedic where we saw the Admirals Arch and early the next day, the Remarkable Rocks.

Making it down to Cape de Couedic as the sun was setting beneath the clouds was a great feeling. To be from the North to the West to the South in such a short time gives us an idea about the sausage aspect of this island. The cliffs from Cape de Couedic onwards are sheer but aren't split by ravines as the north west coast and as you walk along them, you're almost held up by the tremendous wind which shoots up the cliff face.

Next stop Vivonne Bay - I think we might need a day of R and R then...
