Hotel/Motel
Kangaroo Island's Hotel and Motel properties each have a relatively small numbers of rooms, allowing for a more personalised approach to customer service. Hotels and Motels typically feature daily servicing, a reception and tourism information desk, a restaurant and bar. Hotels and Motels are located in each major town as well as at the entrance to Flinders Chase National Park.
Hostel
Hostels provide a high level of interaction with other guests visiting Kangaroo
Island, allowing visitors to swap stories and share their best secrets of Kangaroo
Island. Rates are very reasonable and facilities typically include shared kitchen
and recreation areas. Increasingly, hostels include ensuite bathrooms on a 4-6-share
basis. Hostels on Kangaroo Island are located at the ferry port of Penneshaw, in
the main town of Kingscote, on the entrance to Flinders Chase National Park and
in the centre of the Island. With limited public transport, Independent travelers
are advised to join an organised tour or hire a car to make their way around Kangaroo
Island.
Self-Contained and Apartments
Self Contained accommodation is by far the most common form of accommodation on
Kangaroo Island. Accommodation ranges from units and cabins through to multiple-bedroom
houses and apartments. Accommodation is located within walking distance of town
shops and restaurants, or in more secluded areas including cottages nestled in bushland
or a beach house with beautiful sea views. Many visitors choose to shop at the Island’s
many stores or collect food and wine from local producers and prepare their own
meals in their own fully appointed kitchen.
Caravan and Camping
The Island's private caravan parks at the main town of Kingscote and at the entrance
to Flinders Chase National Park, provide the highest level of services to guests
including cooking facilities, regularly serviced bathrooms and an on-site manager.
National Parks offer guests a range of camping options from designated bush camping
through to sites with cooking and bathroom facilities. Booking for both private
and National Parks are necessary. Kangaroo Island Council manage the remaining campsites
outside of National Parks and each site includes basic facilities. See the
