Caravan & Camping
Camping is only permitted in designated areas on Kangaroo Island. The table at the bottom of the page outlines the facilities available and the booking or permit requirements.

Caravan Parks

Although it is not essential, we highly suggest to book Caravan Parks to avoid disappointment especially in the Peak Seasons.
Bush Camping
Council Camp Grounds: American River, Browns Beach, Emu Bay, Vivonne Bay and Western River Cove. These are self-registering, cannot be pre-reserved and operate on a first in, first served basis.Private Camp Grounds: Stokes Bay (self registering) and Parndana Hotel (bookings available via the hotel 08 8559 6071).
Flinders Chase National Park Camp Grounds: Rocky River, West Bay, Snake Lagoon and Harvey's Return. These require bookings, 08 8553 4490.
Cape Gantheaume & Lashmar Conservation Parks Camp Grounds: Murray Lagoon, D'Estrees Bay and Antechamber Bay. These are self-registering, cannot be pre-reserved and operate on a first in, first served basis.
There is only two free campgrounds on KI being Parndana Hotel (unpowered only) and Antechamber Bay.
Camping Equipment and Camper Hire
Camper trailers and luxury Mercedes 4WD vehicles can be hired from Flour Cask Bay Sanctuary (08) 8553 2356. The Sanctuary also hires camping equipment for use at the Sanctuary or elsewhere on the island.Campfires & Barbecues
Campfires are permitted at designated locations within camping areas. If using a campfire, ensure that by-laws and fire bans are observed. Keep the fire small, using wood sparingly.Campfires In National Parks
